Beginning in 1920, motor cars raced around the Beverly Hills Speedway, located on the south side of Wilshire between Santa Monica Boulevard and Rexford Drive. Built out of wooden 2-by-4s, the one-mile track ranked among the top speedways in the United States before it was torn down in 1924.
